Kaua`i Lagoons Golf Club, 808-241-6000 for tee times, www.KauaiLagoonsGolf.com, has two golf courses, both designed by Jack Nicklaus, the Kiele and Mokihana.

The Kiele Golf Course is par 72 and 7,070 yards. This is a challenging course with unbeatable ocean views. It’s no wonder the Kiele is ranked a “Gold Medal” course by Golf Magazine and is considered one of the top five courses in Hawai`i. You’re greeted at every hole by a white marble statue of an animal or mystical being: Happy Buddha, Elephant, Swan, Dragon, and, of course, The Golden Bear, in tribute to the master golfer who masterminded the course. Greens fees $195.

The Mokihana Golf Course is par 72 and 6,900 yards. If you’re not up for the challenge of the Kiele Course, the Mokihana will provide a pleasant experience. Golfers of all skill levels will find this an enjoyable experience. You have views of Mt. Wai`le`ale, which is an incredible sight, but you don’t get the ocean views of the Kiele Course. Greens fees are $120.

Puakea Golf Course, 4150 Nuhou Street, Lihu`e, 866-773-5554, 808-245-8756, www.puakeagolf.com. Par 72; 6035 yards. Located across from Kukui Grove Shopping Center, Mount Haupu provides the backdrop for this course, designed by Robin Nelson. It opened in 2003, making it the newest course on the island. It is the most fun to play, especially if you’re an intermediate player. You have mostly mountain views, but there is the occasional ocean view. You can play nine holes for $75 or all 18 holes for $125.
